What are your work interests?

My interest lies in virtualization and arose during my studies at KdG University in Antwerp. I also enjoy programming, which is a rather rare combination. Why? Because programmers usually have little knowledge of systems and vice versa, engineers are good at writing a script, but are less familiar with programming.

How did you find out this was your thing?

I first came into contact with virtualization during one of my previous jobs. I was responsible for taking care of the IT infrastructure of customers at an operational level. At one of these customers I was allowed to manage a virtual environment of VMware . I immediately noticed that this was my thing and decided that I wanted to focus on this further. That’s why I started looking for a new job that matched my interest in virtualization.

How did you join epact?

While looking for my new challenge, I quickly came across the Uptime Group website. As you may know, this is the cluster above ePact and is a major player within the IT world. They have a wide range of companies under their wings and are supported by the Cronos Group .

On their website I saw the open vacancy of Virtualization Architect at ePact. As you might guess, the application was a success and I was able to start up very quickly. In hindsight, I’m still super happy with this opportunity!

How are you working with virtualization and automation in your current job?

On the website you will see that I am a Datacenter and Automation architect. Logically, this means that I am involved in virtualization and automation on a daily basis. I set up virtual computer environments within companies by dividing one physical environment or server into multiple virtual machines.

In addition to virtualization, I also ensure that repetitive matters and processes are automated. Suppose a new employee starts within your team. For this, an account must be created within the computer environment so that he/she can log in and have access to all necessary systems and documents. This process can always be done manually by an IT employee or can be automated. Automation ensures that the risk of human error is removed and that a lot of time is saved.

You have been working at ePact for about 4 years, how do you look back on this?

Thanks to ePact I have learned a lot and I have had the opportunity to develop further within virtualization and automation. Our team is even encouraged to obtain certificates and to follow training courses at home and abroad! This is because we work closely with various partners and big names within the IT world, so of course we must have the necessary expertise for their solutions.

Trend Micro for example, is an international player in cybersecurity. They help companies protect themselves against new threats with the most comprehensive and latest security options. At the beginning of my career, I had the opportunity to get certified in Deep Security. This means that I can implement, configure and manage these solutions at customers.

At VMware , the international player in Cloud Computing and virtualization software and services, I am a certified professional in Data Center Virtualization. I renewed my VCP-DCV certificate this summer and am therefore fully up-to-date with my knowledge of the vSphere solution. This means that I can implement, manage and diagnose problems with a V6.7 infrastructure.

On my agenda is also obtaining the VMware certificates Certified Advanced Professional in Datacenter Virtualization and Certified Professional in Cloud Management Automation.

Last but not least, I am also a Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE 2020) . Veeam is a technology company focused on backup, disaster recovery and data management software for virtual, physical and multicloud infrastructures. By obtaining this certificate I can correctly install, configure and manage the Veeam solutions.

What has been the most memorable experience in recent years?

Without a doubt VMware’s Empower event in Vienna. This is a trade fair of several days in which various sessions are given on the technical side of VMware solutions. What’s new? How does VMware handle a particular situation? When important matters are on the agenda, they are also shared here.

In addition, I also look back with a good feeling on the VMCE 2020Beta Class of Veeam in Bucharest. This was an exclusive event about the Veeam VMCE 2020 training. This took place in a select group (+/- 15 people) consisting of various Solution Architects and Systems Engineers. The aim was to actively provide feedback on the content of the new training and to share our own experiences from the field.

Finally, how would you describe working at ePact?

At ePact there is always a nice atmosphere and you will end up in a great team. Everyone here is very open and you can always contact colleagues if you have any problems. In addition , the monthly team building activities are a plus . You are not obliged to come along, but almost everyone always comes along. It’s nice to get to know your colleagues better in a different setting!

Would you also like to be part of our young and motivated team? Then keep an eye on our vacancies on LinkedIn or send a spontaneous application with cover letter to info@epact.be. Who knows, you might soon be our new colleague.
